SUNDAY:  St. Francis Youth Group will host an Omelet breakfast on Sunday, June 8, 9:00 A.M.-1:00 P.M. in the Church hall.  A free will offering is asked to support the group’s Habitat for Humanity service project in July.  Thanks!

Siouxland Community Blood Drive will be held on Tuesday, June 10th from 12:00 P.M.-6:00 P.M. at St. Paul Lutheran Church.

Hope and Healing Ministries, A Ministry of the Diocese of Davenport is sponsoring a Committed to Freedom weekend retreat for spiritual and emotional healing form sexual abuse, for survivors and family.  The retreat will be in Cedar Falls the weekend of June 27-29.  For more information please call HHM at 1-877-896-4673.

A Polka Mass will be held at SS Peter & Paul Historical Site, on Sunday, June 22 at 10:30 A.M.  There will be a pan fried chicken dinner at the Expo Center from 12:30 P.M.-2:00 P.M.  Tickets can be obtained at Pocahontas State Bank.  The church is located ½ block west of Citizens State Bank, off main in Pocahontas.

Parish Council Meeting will be held June 15th following the 9:00 A.M. Mass.

Diocesan Annual Appeal (DAA 2007):  Last fall out parish members pledged $7,820.60 toward the annual appeal parish goal of $7057.75.  To date $7,728.10 of those monies pledged have been redeemed, and our parish has seen a return of $1023.00 from the diocese.  Once again, thanks to all who actively supported the annual appeal.  It funds necessary diocesan-wide ministries and some diocesan operations.  Great job-thanks for sharing with the wider church.

June 17-20:  I will be in Chicago for the annual reunion of the Alumni Association of the Pontifical North American College (Rome).  The college’s rector and board of governors will honor me as the nineteenth recipient of the association’s Founders Medal.  This award is given to an alumnus in recognition of his service of the college and its mission of priestly formation.  Given the circumstances, I guess I have to go!

The Domestic/Sexual Assault Outreach Center will be sponsoring the “Brake the Cycle of Violence-Twin Lakes Bike Ride” on Saturday, July 12, 2008.  Registration  starts at 7:00 A.M. at Twin Lake State Park followed by the ride at 8:00 A.M.

Stephen Kesten, son of Fred and Marianne Kesten will be honored as an Eagle Scout on Sunday, June 22 at 2:30 P.M. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Rockwell City.  Stephen is a former member of St. Francis.  Congratulations on a job well done!

Prayer Request:  In your charity, please pray for the repose soul of Mark Wade who was buried from St. Francis this past Wednesday.  Mark is the son-in-law of John and Marty Block of Rockwell City.

 

 

 

 

 

St. Francis Parish Council Meeting Minutes

May 18, 2008

Those present were Msgr. McCoy, Marcia Lynch, Tim Collison, Paul Feld, John Johnson, and Michelle Dischler.

The meeting was opened with a prayer lead by Msgr. McCoy.

Members looked over the minutes of the last meeting, and they were approved.  Marcia Lynch moved that the minutes be accepted and Paul Feld 2nd the motion.

Altar Society:  Correction on the amount donated to the Villhauer benefit.  It should have been $200.00.

Holy Name:  Fair Stand-will require a written agreement with other organizations that use it due to the liability issue.  Will give Joanne McGinty the keys for the stand.  Holy Name donated $500.00 to the Villhauer benefit.

Buildings and Grounds:  The boiler at the education center was checked and also the air conditioner at the rectory to make sure all is working properly. 

Old Business:  Msgr. McCoy and the directors will review applications for the custodial position.  No applications have been received for the DRE position as of yet.

Tim Collison motioned to adjourn the meeting and Marcia Lynch 2nd the motion.

The meeting was closed with a prayer led by Msgr. McCoy.

The next meeting will be held on June 15, 2008.
