Sunday, April 13, 2008-The Fourth Sunday of Easter:  Sisters and brothers, the Holy Spirit has drawn us together to give praise and thanks to God.  We acknowledge the greatness of God, who sent the Lord Jesus to be our savior.  Through his death and resurrection we are save and made free.  He is the way to eternal life.  Our hearts are filled with rejoicing, we begin this Mass ever grateful for the gift of the Lord Jesus in this community and in our lives.

MASS TIME CHANGE:  Next Saturday, April 19, the evening Mass will be celebrated at 5:00 P.M. instead of the usual 5:30 P.M. time.  This accommodation will allow our younger parishioners to attend Mass prior to their Prom festivities which begin at 6:30 P.M.  Thanks to everyone for your understanding.

 

In your Christian charity, please pray for the peaceful repose of the soul of Bruce O’Tool whose funeral was Saturday morning at St. Francis Church.  The parish family prays for all who mourn Bruce’s passing from this life; we pray that his family and friends may know the consolation of the Risen Lord.

 

Ft. Dodge Duplicate Bridge has asked the Ladies Aid to furnish 50 dozen cookies.  Anyone wanting to donate nice size cookies call Carolyn Richardson.  After our meeting we will set up a time to make them at the church.

 

Omelet Breakfast sponsored by the St. Francis Youth Group will be held on Sunday, April 13 from 10:00 A.M.-1:00 P.M. in the church basement of St. Francis.  Money raised will help fund the Habitat for Humanity trip in July.

 

DCCW Convention:  The Council of Catholic Women for the Diocese of Sioux City will host its biennial convention on April 18 and 19 at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, West Bend, IA.  Friday evening (18th) 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm is a mini-Retreat followed by a social.  Saturday, April 19, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm is the convention.  Mass at 11:00 am celebrated by Bishop Nickless.  Registration: write or email Cecelia Thelen, 2091 370th St., Vail, IAN 51465 or ctlt@iowatelecom.net  Convention fee is $25.00.  Overnight accommodations are available at Park View Inn and Suites (West Bend), call 877-612-5366 – be sure to mention Council of Catholic Women for preferred rate.

 

Spring Brunch for the Ladies:  Saturday, May 3, at 9:30 am, the Church of Christ Ladies will host their annual Spring Brunch – Elsie Moore from Vintage Treasures will share fashions of the past century.

 

Theology on Tap: For the 20 and 30 somethings – if you are in Sioux City on Sunday, April 20, Bishop Nickless is hosting Theology on Tap at El Fredo’s Pizza (just off Hamilton Blvd. at W 19th St and Center.  Theology on Tap is a national initiative inviting young adult Catholics to a discussion of Catholic faith and contemporary issues.

 

Papal Wisdom: a series of lectures and discussion throughout the month of April.  Sponsored by the Sioux City Diocesan office of evangelization – please see the poster on the bulletin board in the church vestibule for dates, times and topics being offered. Various weeknights during the month of April at Trinity Heights, Floyd Blvd at 33rd, Sioux City.

 

Rogation Days:  Perhaps you have not heard of this term for a while, but these three days are set aside to pray for our farmers and the fields they tend.  In the Diocese of Sioux City these days are usually the three days immediately before Ascension Thursday-so our Masses and prayers in those days of April 28, 29 and 30 will focus our intentions on the fields and farms as well as those who care for them.
