Sunday, June 15, 2008-The Eleventh Sunday in Ordinary Time:  Brothers and sisters, in baptism we are made God’s very own sons and daughters in Christ Jesus.  Those who are lost are found.  Those who are sick are healed.  Those who walk in darkness now live in the light of God’s life.  The Lord’s heart is moved with pity and love as he looks upon us, his holy and faithful people.  Mindful of Christ’s presence in this gathering of believers, let us conform our hearts to his and lift up prayers and praise and thanksgiving to our heavenly Father.

June 17-20 Absence:  I will be in Chicago this week for the annual reunion of the Alumni Association of the Pontifical North American College (Rome).  The college’s rector and board of governors will honor me as the nineteenth recipient of the association’s Founders Medal.  This award is given to an alumnus in recognition of his service of the college and its mission of priestly formation.  I have a late morning flight from Omaha; so I will have Monday Mass at 7:30 A.M.

Tabernacle:  On Tuesday of this past week I took the tabernacle and a few of the sacred vessels to a metal works specialist in Omaha for refurbishing.  This metal works has specialized in church metal goods for four generations.  The ciboria and chalice will require approximately 4 weeks; the tabernacle will require six weeks or longer.  The tabernacle itself is fifty years old and the metal work was showing some tarnish and pitting.  This project is being underwritten in part by the Altar Society and a memorial gift.

June 28/29:  The feast of Ss. Peter and Paul marks the annual Peter’s Pence collection.  This annual collection aids the Holy Father in serving the needs of the poorest victims of natural disasters and violence across the globe.  His charitable outreach is a concrete expression of hope for those in most need.  Your generous support of this collection ensures many will know “Christ our Hope.”  Thanks for considering this appeal in your charitable giving.

Custodial/Maintenance position:  Steve Wozniak accepted the position and has been making a noticeable difference since taking on these duties last week.  Thanks, Steve, and thanks to the others who expressed interest in this position.
