Sunday, May 18, 2008-The Most Holy Trinity:  Brothers and sisters, it is with great joy that we gather on this Solemnity of the Holy Trinity.  Today we recall the love shared among Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.  We are drawn into the spiral of that love and are summoned to share this divine life with those we meet.  Acknowledging that all of this is a free gift of grace from our loving God, we begin this Mass with grateful hearts.

Absent from parish:  I will be in Houston, Texas for a meeting of the National Museum of Funeral History.  I am working with the museum in designing an exhibit “Celebrating the Lives and Deaths of the Popes.”  I will be leaving after Mass on Monday and return Thursday afternoon to celebrate the weekly Mass at NCCF at 6:30 P.M.  Friday, May 23, I will drive to Peoria, Illinois to represent the Pontifical North American College at the priesthood ordination of Rev. Mr. Robert Lampitt on May 24; I will return to the parish on Sunday, May 25.  Msgr. Thomas Donahoe will celebrate the weekend Masses on the 24th and 25th.

Memorial Day:  Weather permitting, I will offer the Memorial Day Mass at the cemetery on Monday, May 26 at 9:00 A.M. near the statue of Our Risen Lord.  In the event of rain, Mass will be in the church at 9:00 A.M.

--The community civil celebration of Memorial Day is scheduled for 10:00 A.M. at the cemetery; should it rain, the ceremonies will take place at the Calhoun County Historical Museum.

Position Opening:    The Director of Religious Education remains open.  Position descriptions and application forms are available from Msgr. McCoy.  Applications for Maintenance-Custodial Position were accepted through May 12; these applications are now under consideration.

Upcoming Event:  St. Francis Youth Group will host an Omelet breakfast on Sunday, June 8, 9:00 A.M.-1:00 P.M. in the Church hall.  A free will offering is asked to support the group’s Habitat for Humanity service project in July.  Please support these efforts, and invite family and friends.  Thanks.

High School Graduation:  Congratulations to our graduates.  Rockwell City-Lytton commencement will be held at 2:00 P.M. in the high school today.  The parish family also thanks the many women who devoted many hours to quilting this winter.  Our high school graduates will enjoy the fruits of their labors in the years ahead as they continue their educations or pursue their chosen career path.  Our prayers are always with you (remember them when you are comforted by your quilt); St. Francis of Assisi parish is your spiritual home-you are always most welcome!

Totus Tuus:  This catechetical summer program offered at area parishes in Carroll and Fort Dodge for grade school, middle school and high school parishioners.  For more information go to the diocesan website:  www.scdiocese.org; go to the “ministries” tab and click on Catechetic/Evangelization menu item.  Or call Central Catholic Offices at 712-255-7933.

Special Collection:  This weekend, May 17/18, a special collection will be taken up to aid parishioners of Gashland Presbyterian Church in Gladstone, Missouri.  Many of their parishioners suffered loss as a result of the severe storms and tornados just one mile from the church itself.  Gashland Presbyterian hosts our youth group when they travel to KC for the Habitat for Humanity service trip; the church has offered this hospitality at no cost to our group for the past six years.  They could benefit from our support, please be generous.

The Lunch Connection at Stewart Memorial Community Hospital will be held on Thursday, June 5th at 12:00 noon in the Conference Center.  The program will be “Top 10 Women’s Health Topics” by Derek Duncan, D.O.  There is limited seating and reservations are required.  Please call 712-464-4224 or 712-464-3171, extension 6263 by Tues. Theology on Tap is a great way for young adults in their 20s and 30s to meet in a casual setting to hear an interesting speaker on a top of Catholic faith, have lively conversation, and enjoy food and drink together.  The next Theology on Tap Session will be Sunday, May 18th at 7:00 P.M. at Sweet Fannies in Sioux City.  Fr. David Hemann of Sacred Heart, Ida Grove and OLGC, Holstein will speak about foundations of spirituality.  For more information call Jessica at 712-233-7561.
