Sunday, April 20, 2008-The Fifth Sunday of Easter:  Brothers and sisters, the great fifty-day feast of Easter joy continues as the Holy Spirit once again draws us together in this place.  It is here that our hunger for God is satisfied.  Here we are fed at the tables of word and Eucharist.  Here we remember the sacrifice of Christ and once again drawn into the mystery of his dying and rising.  With grateful hearts we begin this Mass with our thoughts focused on Jesus Christ, who died and rose from the dead so that we might be dead to sin and alive for God in him.

MASS TIME CHANGE:  Please note the early Mass time for Friday, April 25.  Morning Mass will be at 7:00 A.M.  The reason for this change is that I have a meeting to attend outside of Rockwell City; this accommodation will afford me the necessary travel time and still allow for the daily Mass.  Thanks for your understanding.

Thanks!  The St. Francis Youth Group extends a big THANK YOU to all who supported last week’s Omelet Breakfast fund raiser.  Your generosity and support are sincerely appreciated.  Thanks, too, to all the parents who assisted with the preparation and follow-thru.  Funds aid the Habitat for Humanity mission trip in July.

First Communion:  Our second grade class will receive their First Holy Communion at the 9:00 A.M. Mass next Sunday, April 27.  Our first communicants will be:  Regan Barret, Danny Casey and Set Stamp.  Please pray for these young parishioners who will receive Our Lord in the Eucharist for the first time.

Spring Brunch for the Ladies:  Saturday, May 3, at 9:30 am, the Church of Christ Ladies will host their annual Spring Brunch – Elsie Moore from Vintage Treasures will share fashions of the past century.

Rogation Days:  Perhaps you have not heard of this term for a while, but these three days are set aside to pray for our farmers and the fields they tend.  In the Diocese of Sioux City these days are usually the three days immediately before Ascension Thursday-so our Masses and prayers in those days of April 28, 29 and 30 will focus our intentions on the fields and farms as well as those who care for them.  With the assistance of Margaret Feld, I think I have a good list of farmers who are parishioners of St. Francis parish.  I will be traveling to the farms of our parish during the rogation days to pray the Lord’s blessing over your fields.  I have the most recent plat map, but if you think I might not have your proper address-please let me know.  No one need be present; I will simply stop in your drive and bless your farm operation-my intention will be to bless all of your fields whether they are contiguous to your principal operation or not.

In your Christian charity, please pray for the peaceful repose of the soul of Lauretta Holder whose funeral was this past Monday morning at St. Francis Church.  May the Risen Lord comfort those who mourn her passing, in particular, her children:  Mary Stell, Steve and Phil Holder.

Guest Night:  The Altar Society is hosting a baked potato bar for the ladies of Rockwell City churches on Wednesday, April 23 at 6:00 P.M. in the parish hall.  All women of the Rockwell City parishes are welcome.

A benefit breakfast for Chris Kummfeld will be held April 27th at the Community building.

Church Women United will be hosting “May Fellowship Day” on May 2nd at 9:30 A.M. at Immanuel Lutheran Church.
